Chrome theme creator questions

Clear answers about compatibility, installation, images, privacy, and publishing.

Is this Chrome theme creator free?

Yes. You can design, preview, and export a Chrome theme ZIP for free. Local drafts do not require an account; signing in is required only when you publish to Awetheme.

Can I use the theme in Microsoft Edge?

Yes. Edge and most other Chromium-based browsers can use the same Chrome theme files, although a few interface colors may look slightly different between browser versions.

How do I install the exported ZIP in Chrome?

Extract the ZIP, open Chrome's Extensions page, enable Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select the extracted theme folder.

Why does the installed theme look different from the preview?

The most common cause is a difference between the theme's preview size and the display area available to Chrome, which changes how the background is scaled or cropped. For a theme you create, use the default Preview size on the screen where you plan to install it. When downloading another theme, check its target size or use the “My screen (exactly)” filter. With multiple monitors, move the creator to the target screen and choose Reset to default size before exporting.

What background image size should I use?

Use a high-resolution image close to a common desktop aspect ratio, such as 1920×1080 or larger. The creator can adjust focus and display mode, but small images may look soft on high-resolution screens.

Will my uploaded images become public?

Images used while editing or saved in a local draft stay in your browser for preview and export. Theme previews and required assets are uploaded only when you choose to publish.

Is publishing to Awetheme the same as the Chrome Web Store?

No. Publishing to Awetheme lists the theme in the Awetheme marketplace. Chrome Web Store distribution requires a separate submission with the package, screenshots, and store listing details.
