Personal use vs. public release
Compare personal installation with public distribution through Awetheme or the Chrome Web Store.
Themes are used in two broad ways:
1. Only on your own computer
- Export a ZIP, unzip it, and load it with Developer mode
- Best for personal use and sharing with a small group
Benefits: No store listing is required.
Considerations: Installation takes several steps, so this option is not ideal for broad distribution.
Steps: Install a theme on your computer.
2. Public release
Two common paths:
- Awetheme marketplace: Click Publish in the creator so people can find and download it here
- Chrome Web Store: One-click install and automatic updates for users; requires a developer account and review
Benefits: Easier installation and greater confidence for users.
Considerations: You must provide store information and complete a review process.
Store steps: Publish to the Chrome Web Store.
