How themes differ from extensions
Themes change browser appearance, while extensions add browser functionality.
What a theme is
A theme only changes the browser’s appearance (Awetheme exports Chrome theme packages that also work on Edge and other Chromium browsers):
- Colors for the window frame, toolbar, tabs, new tab page, and so on
- Images such as backgrounds and frame art
- No scripts injected into web pages, and no change to how pages work
Choose a theme when you want a more personal and visually consistent browser.
What an extension is
Extensions add functionality:
- They can modify page content, listen for actions, and call browser APIs
- They usually request permissions
- Review and security requirements are stricter
Choose an extension for tools such as ad blocking, notes, and translation.
Awetheme creates appearance themes. It does not create or distribute browser extensions.
